Lithic Stone Tools

The Story of Lithic of Stone Tools

Lithic technology includes a broad array of techniques used to produce usable tools from various types of stone. Identifying a stone tool from a rock weathered by age can be a matter of experience. The context in which the tools are found can sometimes be the only way to tell the difference. Stone tools are first traced back to the type of stone used to make the tool. The majority of my tools are made from Chert. Arrowheads or spear heads are often easier to identify by their shape. Other tools or tool fragments are often identified based on how the rock is fractured. Intentional fractures designed to shape the rock to a purpose are often different from naturally occurring fractures in the rock itself.
